You probably think I am a romantic fool, but I do try to understand where those, who disagree with me, are coming from.

In my effort to understand those who support Trump, I went over to Breitbart "news" website, where apparently most of them get their information, including Trump himself. None of the photos I saw of the millions of women demonstrating in the streets world wide were to be found on their news source. Instead, photos of anarchists burning garbage cans, Madonna "dropping the F bomb", painting the opposition as a violent angry mob of confused Anarchists and Pop Stars. This demonization of those who disagree seems to be typical. Every time I dare to engage in a discussion with a Trump supporter, I end up at a point, at which I become completely helpless because I realize they live on another planet. I think this phenomenon is called "filter bubble", you only get information, which supports your own opinions. I used to think that both sides have these filter bubbles, but now I realize more and more that it is mostly those who read Breitbart and watch Fox who are in a bubble because they only get a filtered view. I am reading European media, mostly German (Die Zeit, Der Spiegel, Die Tageszeitung), listening to foreign news, and I think I am getting a pretty broad picture. Hell, I even listened to Rush Limbaugh for a while. I really try to understand their frustration, but I more and more realize that in order to pop the bubble, we need much more than just trying to empathize and exchange information. Can you help me out here? Do you have any thoughts about this? How can we make peace with someone who thinks we are evil? How can we ask someone to understand us, who is absolutely certain we are misinformed?
